Heroin, Ecstasy, Weapons Seized at Hopatcong Home, Cops Say

20-year-old resident was being tracked for a month, police report.

After a month-long investigation by three police departments and the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, a Hopatcong resident has been arrested and charged for having a cache of illegal drugs in his home, Hopatcong Police Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

Officers from Hopatcong, Roxbury and Mount Arlington, in conjunction with Sussex County Sheriff’s Officers and a K-9 unit, served an arrest and search warrant on Michael Calo, 20, at his home on Eugene Road at 1 p.m. Thursday, Kmetz said.

The warrants were a result of a month-long investigation into Calo’s dealings, Kmetz said, and a search of his home yielded the following:

  • Ecstasy with a street value of $9,220
  • $3,245 in cash
  • Marijuana packaged in dime bags for distribution
  • 50 bags of heroin
  • 3 suboxone pills
  • 4 scales, two of which looking like cell phones
  • 1 electronic smoking device
  • Several illegal knives

Calo was charged with possession of ecstasy, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy, distribution of ecstasy, possession of heroin, possession of suboxone, possession of more than five ounces of ecstasy with the intent to distribute, possession of more than 1 ounce of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and will be charged with possession of illegal weapons.

Calo, currently unemployed, was arrested without incident at his home, Kmetz said. He was taken to Sussex County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
