Hopatcong Man, Two Others Drove in Stolen Car, Police Say

Resident was also charged with another crime that was reported earlier in the same month.

A Hopatcong man was found to have been in possession of a stolen car from New York state while he and two other passengers were in the borough, according to . Police said the same man was also found to have been responsible for another crime in the borough.

Charles Baum, 20, was arrested for being in possession of stolen property on Aug. 29, according to police. While he was being questioned in connection to the stolen car, he was also questioned about breaking into a vehicle on Aug. 20 and stealing $345, a crime , police said.

Police said neighbors called suspicious of a car with New York license plates parked by three males on Brooklyn Mountain Road near Columbia Trail. Residents in the area identified Baum as one of the three men, police said.

Police said that a second man that was in the car, Corey Lenhard, 23, of Bellport, N.Y., was also reported by residents as being suspicious as he was walking around the area. Police said Lenhard told them he had been sleeping in the woods at the end of the road, and gave them a false name.

Police said they pressed him for his real name, and that he was arrested and charged with giving false information to an officer and being in possession of stolen property.

The third male in the car who police said has been identified as being named Tyler Brown, also of New York, has not been located yet, according to police. Police said they believe he got on a train heading back to New York.

Baum, who police said cooperated with them, was charged with possession of stolen property, and was later released, according to police. Police said Lenhard was taken to the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
