Hopatcong PD to Attend Mt. Arlington Cop's Funeral

Police chief: 'We just want to show support.'

The Hopatcong police department will send nine off-duty officers and at least a marked police cruiser to Friday's funeral for Mount Arlington police Officer Joe Wargo, who was killed Sunday in a crash with a man police say was driving intoxicated on Route 80.

"We just want to show support to a fellow officer who died while serving his community," Swanson said.

Wargo's funeral will start at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church at 930 Fifth Ave. in Phillipsburg. On Thursday, a viewing will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. at Doyle-Devlin Funeral Home at 895 Corliss Ave. in Phillipsburg.

On Wednesday, Michael Cassella, 29, appeared via video before a Morris County judge, who with no 10-percent option. Police say an empty bottle of methadone was found in Cassella's car after the crash.
