Jefferson Trail Hit-and-Run Driver Sought

Police seek driver of dark-colored Jeep who nearly crashed head-on into another vehicle Friday night.

Hopatcong Police are looking for anyone who might have seen a Jeep sideswipe another vehicle on Jefferson Trail Friday night.

According to police, the motorist was heading north on Jefferson Trail at about 6:35 p.m. Friday when she saw a dark-colored Jeep coming at her, head on, at a high rate of speed. The driver swerved to the left to avoid the Jeep, which sideswiped her and sped off.

The driver whose vehicle was struck wasn't injured, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

The Jeep in question should have damage to its passenger side fender and passenger side wheel, Kmetz said.

Anyone with information on the Jeep should call Hopatcong Police at 973-398-5000.
