Hopatcong to Add 2nd Police Officer of 2012

Patrolman expected to join department as sergeant readies for retirement.

Hopatcong's council is expected to approve the borough's second police hire of 2012 at a meeting at the Wednesday night

Thomas Snyder is expected to join the Hopatcong Police Department as a patrolman at the fourth-year pay grade of $62,114. Snyder was laid off from the Sparta Police Department due to budget cuts in 2011.

With Snyder, the would have 25 officers—three short of where it was in 2008 after absorbing retirements, including that of former chief, , on Jan. 1.

Borough Administrator Bob Elia said Snyder's hire would come as Sgt. Don Warzecha readies for an Aug. 1 retirement.

Hopatcong will also introduce its 2012 municipal budget at the meeting.
