Hopatcong Woman Dies in Motorcycle Crash

A 47-year-old Hopatcong woman died Friday night after her motorcycle collided with a car on Route 46 in Budd Lake, Mount Olive police said.

Police haven't released the names of the people involved in the crash.

According to police, the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Route 46 and Old Wolfe Road, when a 62-year-old woman from Budd Lake, driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima, collided with a 1993 Honda CBR motorcycle as she was attempting to make a left turn on to Old Wolfe Road.

Members of the Budd Lake First Aid Squad, who were at their squad building located several hundred feet from the crash, began providing medical attention to the driver of the motorcycle within minutes, before she was transported to the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center by ambulance, police said. The driver of the Nissan was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital as a precautionary measure, police said.

An investigation determined that the motorcycle had the right of way and that speed doesn’t appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.

The investigation was handled by Mt. Olive Police Department, along with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section, the Budd Lake Fire Department, the Budd Lake First Aid Squad, the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center ambulance, and paramedics from St. Clare’s hospital.
