UPDATE: Power Returns to Almost 1K Homes

Tree branch to blame for Hopatcong outages, police say.

Nearly 1,000 Hopatcong Jersey Central Power & Light customers lost electricity early Friday when a tree branch fell on a power line on Hudson Avenue, police said.

Nobody was injured when the branch fell, police said.

Power was restored to most homes by 1 p.m., according to the company's power outage map.

Police said the line fell around 9:30 a.m. The Hopatcong fire department quickly responded to the scene. JCP&L trucks had been seen driving near the area of the downed wire, police said.

As of 11:20 a.m., 895 customers had lost electricity, JCP&L said.

The outage marks the second of the week for Hopatcong. Almost 400 homes went without power for a short time Monday night
