Lake Hopatcong Snake Has Hand-Sized Head, Expert Says

Specialist gets a glimpse of what is believed to be a boa constrictor that is about 15 or 16 feet long.

A reptile expert got a glimpse of the large snake that has made waves in the Lake Hopatcong community over the past week before it swam away and avoided capture on Thursday.

According to Gerald Andrejcak, a reptile specialist who works for Common Sense for Animals, the snake is about 15 or 16 feet long and has a head the size of his hand, NJ.com reported.

Andrejcak spotted the head and neck of the snake in a boat house on South Jersey Avenue, according to NJ.com. The snake swam past his leg and got away. That was the only glimpse Andrejcak got of the snake during his several hours at the lake on Thursday, according to NJ.com.

The snake, believed to be a boa constrictor that was dumped in the area, was first spotted last week. The snake has been seen numerous times since then, causing fear, anxiety and lots of gossip in the lake community. The boa even has its own Twitter page.
