Cops: Hopatcong Man Passed Out on Drugs in Grandmother's Senior Home

Mount Olive Police were called after Lawrence Mastorelli's grandmother could not revive him, according to report.

A Hopatcong man is facing charges including heroin possession after being found under the influence at his grandmother's home in Flanders last Saturday, according to Mt. Olive Township Police.

Lawrence Mastorelli, 21, was charged with heroin possession, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia and a hypodermic needle, a department statement said.

Police were called to an apartment at the Mount Olive Manor for a report of a man who was believed to have passed out inside of a bathroom and who was not responding to his grandmother, police said. The man was able to answer the door when officers arrived and identified himself as Mastorelli. According to the police report, he appeared lethargic, as if he were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The responding officer found suspected drug paraphernalia on Mastorelli, police said. The report said the officer requested and received consent to search the man's belongings, which led to the discovery of suspected heroin and additional drug paraphernalia.

After being arrested, Mastorelli was released on his own recognizance pending a court date.
