Loaded Gun Seized From Convicted Felon's Car, Police Say

East Stroudsburg man arrested in Sparta Friday after police said they found a semi-automatic pistol in his car.

A loaded semi-automatic handgun was seized from the vehicle of an East Stroudsburg man who was arrested in Sparta Friday.

Kamar E. Samuels, 38, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and issued several motor vehicle summonses. He was sent to the Sussex County jail in lieu of $75,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Sparta Township Police Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said Samuels also had several warrants out for his arrest out of Warren County totaling $870.

Beebe said Samuels is a convicted felon for charges related to eluding police and resisting arrest in 2011. He is currently serving probation in Pennsylvania.

Samuels was driving in Sparta around 1 p.m. when he was stopped by Ptl. CJ Grauerholz for allegedly making an illegal u-turn. In speaking to Samuels, Beebe said the warrants were discovered and that Samuels admitted to having a gun in the car, but would not provide Grauerholz consent to search the vehicle.

Officers obtained a search warrant over the phone, Beebe said, and Grauerholz found a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol with one two magazines, one loaded, under the front seat.

Ptl. Brian Hassloch assisted with the arrest.
