A Hopatcong man was sentenced to three years in jail on June 25 for trying to gouge out a cop's eye, the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office said.
Francisco Torres, 20, . Torres, who has already spent 113 days in prison, must also submit a DNA sample, pay $205 in fines and $709.80 in restitution.
Earlier in the year, Sgt. Michael Houtz at Torres' Lakeside Boulevard home and has made a full recovery, police said.
Houtz and Officer Michael O'Shea had responded to Torres' home on a report of a distraught male, police said. He was also threatening first aid squad members with a baseball bat, police said.
Torres was represented by Steven J. Insley while Assistant Prosecutor Jerome P. Neidhardt represented the state.
