Man Gets Probation for Stealing, Pawning $1K of Roommate's Jewelry

Christopher Onnen entered a guilty plea for the crimes just prior to his sentencing.

A 28-year-old Hopatcong man was sentenced to three years of probation and 50 hours of community service for third-degree theft Sept. 9 in Sussex County Superior Court. Prosecutor David J. Weaver made the  announcement last Tuesday.

Just prior to sentencing, Christopher Onnen pled guilty to stealing $1,250 in jewelry last February from the woman whose home he shared and then selling the stolen items to a pawn broker, according to Weaver. 

In addition to probation and community service, Onnen must submit to random drug testing. a TASC evaluation and DNA testing; pay fines and fees and be employed, the prosecutor said.
