Man Jailed For Sexual Relationship With Minor, Cops Say

A Hopatcong man has been arrested and jailed after having a sexual relationship with a girl younger than 16, Hopatcong police said.

The girl’s father called police on June 20 to report his daughter – whose name and age are not being disclosed – had a sexual relationship with Andrew Laureano, 19, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

Detectives from the police department and Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office interviewed both the victim and Laureano on separate occasions, Kmetz said. The investigation revealed the two had a sexual, dating relationship for several months, Kmetz said.

Laureano was arrested on June 26 and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor. He was lodged in Sussex County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
