The man killed in a Mt. Olive home Monday night was a retired New York City police officer, according to Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp.
Patrick Gilhuley, 51, retired from the New York City police department in 2003, Knapp said. He was shot and killed at a residence on Apollo Way in the Flanders section of Mt. Olive Township Monday night.
The owner of the home where Gilhuley was found, Virginia Vertetis, 51, has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, Knapp said Wednesday. Vertetis is being held in Morris County Correctional Facility on $700,000 cash bail, bond or property.
