No Charges Filed After Man Was Struck by Truck at Quick Chek

Accident still under investigation, Hopatcong police say.

No charges have been filed against a driver who police said struck an employee of a Hopatcong Quick Chek with his truck on Wednesday.

The man who was struck was sent to Morristown Medical Center. His condition was not known, Hopatcong Police Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

Neither the employee nor the driver were named by police.

While the accident remains under investigation, Kmetz said police found that the Quick Chek employee had been kneeling in front of the gas pump islands next to the store entrance to change the locks on the underground gas caps.

The driver of a Chevrolet 1500 truck pulled up just before 2 p.m. to the gas pumps and allegedly did not see the employee when he drove over him, Kmetz said.

Officers arrived on the scene after receiving several 911 calls.

Video surveillance footage documented the accident and is under review by the Sussex County Crash Team and Sussex County Prosecutor's Office, Kmetz said.
