Nobody Hurt in Ithanell Road Fire (Video, Photos)

Each of borough's fire companies respond to call.

A small stove fire at 21 Ithanell Road brought Hopatcong's fire department out in full force Tuesday afternoon. Nobody was hurt.

Borough resident Jim DeAngelis said he saw smoke coming from one of his two wood-burning stoves.

"We noticed smoke coming from the platform or the base that the stove sits on, it was coming up from the floor," said DeAngelis, a retired police officer. "So I put out the fire and called them to make sure there wasn't any other problem. They did a good job. Great job, actually."

Fire Chief Mike Rahill blamed the fire on a "cracked chimney pipe." He said wood-burning stove fires are common.

"We sent a unit to the roof and the chimney and we found it to be in some auxiliary clean-out due to a cracked chimney pipe," Rahill said. "So we cleaned it out and stopped the fire."
