Police: 1K Go Through DWI Checkpoint
Authorities release results from drunk-driving crackdown.
Nearly 1,000 vehicles passed through the Hopatcong police department's Sept. 2 drunk-driving checkpoint, and for some it wasn't a good time.
Police checked 195 of the 973 cars that entered or exited Hopatcong via Lakeside Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Police said 10 drivers were tested for driving while intoxicated. In addition, Sussex County Sheriff's Officer Kiernan McMorrow and his K-9 Atlas assisted in three drug arrests. Of those arrests, two people were found in possession of a bundle of heroin, police said.
The checkpoint was separate from a larger drunk-driving crackdown in Hopatcong from Aug. 19 to Sept. 5 coordinated by Officer David Kraus, police said.
