Police: Couple Blamed Each Other for Pot

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A couple blamed each other for the bag of pot sitting in plain view in a Hopatcong apartment, said.

Officer David Kraus responded to the 4C's apartments on River Styx Road for a report of a dispute on June 15, police said. While investigating, he went into one of the apartments with Miryan Velasquez, 19, of Hopatcong.

Kraus entered and saw a bag containing marijuana and two smoking pipes, police said. Velasquez said her boyfriend, 21-year-old Kelsey Stevens of Landing, owned the pot. But Stevens disputed that, saying the marijuana belonged to Velasquez, police said.

Stevens and Velasquez each were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Stevens also posted bail on an outstanding motor vehicle warrant for $115 out of Wharton, police said.
