Police: Drunken Driver's SUV Flips After Hitting Snowbank, Mailbox

Sparta woman faces DWI, careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

A Sparta woman was drunk and in possession of drug paraphernalia when she crashed her vehicle into a snowbank, struck a mailbox and then flipped over last week on Glen Road, police said.

Amanda A. Delacruz, 22, was charged with DWI, careless driving, failure to maintain a single lane of travel, possession of drug paraphernalia and a motor vehicle violation.

According to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe, officers found a 2000 Nissan SUV lying on its roof in the driveway of a private residence in the 100 block of Glen Road at about 8:30 p.m. on March 12. Delacruz was found sitting in another vehicle parked next to the scene that was not involved in the crash, Beebe said.

Officers determined Delacruz was traveling westbound on Glen Road when she lost control of the vehicle, struck a snowbank and then a mailbox where the vehicle flipped over, Beebe said.

Delacruz admitted to drinking alcohol and a ceramic smoking pipe with burnt marijuana was found inside her vehicle, Beebe said.

Delacruz was charged and released to a sober adult and the vehicle was impounded.
