Police: Hopatcong House Fire Not Suspicious

A blaze tore through a Rollins Trail home April 13.

The April 13 isn't considered suspicious, Hopatcong Sgt. Michael Houtz and Fire Marshal Richard Cook said.

Cook said while the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, "an electrical malfuction cannot be ruled out." The started in the rear of the home, Cook said.

A firefighter injured his ankle while battling the flames, which took about 45 minutes to extinguish, but was expected to make a full recovery.

The burned home was Hopatcong's second structure fire. In January, a stone Pickrel Point home .

The borough has seen a handful of brush fires, however, due to the warm and dry spring.
