Police: Man Had Pot, Open Alcohol in Car

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Dover man was driving with an open alcohol container and pot in his backseat, police said.

Officer David Kraus was on Click It Or Ticket patrol Monday when he spotted a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker, police said. The vehicle's driver also wasn't wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Kraus pulled over the car and found that the front-seat passenger had been drinking alcohol while inside it, police said. In the backseat was a bag that contained an open alcohol bottle, police said.

There was also a mason jar containing a marijuana pipe and a bag with a small amount of marijuana inside, police said. The driver, 21-year-old Manuel Delvalle, said the pot was his, police said.

Delvalle was arrested and taken to the , where he was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to inspect, police said.

The passenger was issued summonses for not wearing his seatbelt and drinking alcohol while in a motor vehicle, police said.

Delvalle and the passenger were each released, police said.
