Quick Chek Employee Accused of Stealing Cash to Give Her Family

Hopatcong woman allegedly stole more than $2,700 over the past three months while working the overnight shift.

An overnight shift leader at Quick Chek is accused of stealing more than $2,700 from the Hopatcong convenience store over the past three months, police said.

Sadieann Balko, 23, of Hopatcong, was charged with third-degree theft after she took $2,746 from the store between July 14 and Oct. 30, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

According to Kmetz, officers were called to the store on Wednesday and Balko was cooperative in the investigation. Balko said she took the money because she didn't make enough to support her family, Kmetz said.

Balko was arrested, charged and released.
