Sparta Fugitive Fled 1,000 Miles, Report Says

Man was found in Illinois, expected to be brought back to Sussex County within 10 days.

A Sparta man who fled from Sussex County Sheriff's Office deputies last week for allegedly violating probation on heroin possession charges was found nearly 1,000 miles away in Illinois, according to New Jersey Herald.

Ryan O’Doherty, 21, will be brought back to Sussex County within the next 10 days after he was found at his girlfriend's grandmother's house, the newspaper reported.

Deputies were at the home of another man in New Jersey and had him in handcuffs on a violation when O'Doherty pulled up in the driveway and they recognized him, knowing of the warrant for his arrest, according to the Herald. When the deputies went to get O'Dougherty, both men ran and they were only able to apprehend the other man, the newspaper reported.
