Drug-Dealing Student Had Pot, Knife at School, Cops Say

Sparta High School senior allegedly had $4,450, drugs and a 13-inch knife on school property.

An 18-year-old Sparta High School student was arrested Thursday for allegedly selling drugs and having a knife on school property, police said.

School officials searched a car driven by senior Eric Roberts when he arrived at the school at about 11 a.m. Thursday. He was found to have a 13-inch butterfly knife, $4,450 in cash and marijuana divided in separate Ziploc bags, allegedly for distribution, according to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe.

Roberts was charged with distribution of narcotics on school property, possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon on school property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on his own recognizance later that day and is scheduled to appear in municipal court on Thursday, Jan. 31.
