Police: Sparta Woman Keyed Man's Truck Over Parking Squabble

Gail Platides, 58, has been charged with criminal mischief after allegedly causing $1,500 in damage in Stop & Shop parking lot.

A Sparta woman was so annoyed at how a man parked his pickup truck in the Stop & Shop parking lot that she keyed an entire side of the vehicle—causing $1,500 in damage—while the owner was inside the store, police said.

Gail Platides, 58, was charged Friday with fourth-degree criminal mischief to a motor vehicle.

According to a department statement, at about 12:30 p.m. last Tuesday, a man  reported a woman driving a 2009 gold BMW had damaged his truck.

The woman became agitated because of the way he parked his pickup truck, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe. After the man exited the truck, the two began to argue until he went into the supermarket, Beebe said.

When he returned, the man found the full length of the driver's side of his truck had been keyed, Beebe said.

After police reviewed security video of the parking lot and spoke with two witnesses who said they saw Platides damaging the vehicle, the woman was arrested and charged, Beebe said.

The woman was served the charges Friday and released pending a Nov. 14 court date, the report said.
