Sportsmen, Get Ready for Spring with Boating Safety Courses

If you operate a powerboat, you need this boating safety certificate.

Lake Hopatcong isn't always going to be iced over. Before you know it, spring will be here, boats will be out of drydock - and boat operators who haven't taken their required safety courses are going to be out of luck.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 67, will be conducting an “About Boating Safely” course on Saturday, Feb. 8. Sponsored by the Hopatcong Homestead Beach Club, the course will be held at the Hopatcong Civic Center, 32 Lakeside Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The USCG-certified instructors licensed by the state will teach the course, which covers all the subjects necessary to satisfy the requirements for the mandatory NJ Boating Safety Certificate. The certificate is needed by all powerboat operators in New Jersey.

The fee for the course is $65. To register, contact Linda Klusick at 973-398-7869, or enroll online at hhbeach.com/events.php.
