Teen Suffers Minor Injuries After Blacking Out, Crashing Vehicle

17-year-old hit embankment and landed on another vehicle on Maxim Drive near Squaw Trail on Thursday afternoon.

One person sustained minor injuries in a motor vehicle accident Thursday afternoon involving a driver with a provisional license, police said.

Lt. Thomas Kmetz said at about 1 p.m., a 17-year-old motorist was traveling along Maxim Drive near Squaw Trail when her vehicle jumped an embankment and landed on another vehicle, at 403 Maxim Drive.

The young driver told officers she had blacked out behind the wheel, Kmetz said. She had been wearing a seat belt, Kmetz said, and suffered minor bruises, but was taken to St. Clare's Hospital in Denville as a precaution.

"This could have been much worse if it was not for her wearing a seat belt," Kmetz said.
