VIDEO: Hopatcong Honors Police Explorer

Luke Serna exudes professionalism at academy.

Hopatcong honored Luke Serna at a recent mayor and council meeting for his work with the police explorers program.

Professionals and peers voted Serna, 20, most professional at back-to-back junior academies. Police Chief John Swanson and Mayor Sylvia Petillo praised Serna, a William Paterson University criminal justice major.

"At his first go-around, he so impressed his instructors, who are the least likely to ever be impressed with anything," Swanson said, "that they awarded him the most professional award. He goes back to the academy a second time and the instructors say, 'Well, we can't give it to him again. That's not fair.' Lo and behold they find out that the class voted him as most professional."
