VIDEO: Hopatcong's Animal Control Officer Rescues Hawk

Dale Sloat found injured red-tailed hawk on Hudson Avenue.

Hopatcong Animal Control Officer Dale Sloat deals with much more than stray cats and dogs.

On Tuesday, Sloat found a red-tailed hawk near a Hudson Avenue pump house. He sent it to Raptor Trust, a Millington bird rehabilitation center, for treatment when he realized it wasn't flying.

Sloat said a quick examination showed the hawk had a concussion "seemed a bit addlepated." But the hawk's health improved.

Raptor Trust told Sloat to return the recovered hawk where he found it on Thursday because it had most likely recently laid eggs.

Sloat's only concern?

"Just hope the eggs are still viable," he said.
