$350K OK'd for Mohawk Lake Water Line Repairs

Sparta approved bonds for water system upgrades and general capital projects.

The Mohawk Lake section of Sparta Township is in line for $350,000 in water utility-related work, following the passage Tuesday of a funding ordinance.

The Township Council approved a $760,000 bond ordinance to cover the costs of repairs and upgrades to the township’s water system. The council also approved a $1 million bond ordinance for unspecified capital projects throughout the township.

The Mohawk Lake work includes installation of new water mains and the upgrading of existing mains.

Other work covered by the water ordinance includes “radio read meters,” equipment to allow for meters to be read electronically, and security fencing for the well house.

The bond will also cover the cost of rehabilitating the water tank and the purchase of at least one new utility truck.

From Water to Wine

The Township Council also approved nine existing liquor licenses for the upcoming year, and approved the transfer of the license assigned to the retailer Liquor Factory, which moved its store from Theatre Square to a new Woodport Road location, the former site of a lumber store.

Existing licenses were approved for: Fu’s Chinese restaurant; Sparta Lanes; Lake Mohawk Golf Club; Lake Mohawk Country Club; White Deer Inn; Sparta Town Tavern (Forno Italiano); Village Saloon; Burkes Inc., and Skyview Golf Course.
