Are You Confident in the Federal Government?

Patch asked Hopatcong residents their opinion in the wake of the national debt-ceiling deal.

It was like professional wrestling, Washington-style.

On one end was were the Democrats, arguing for added revenue (read: tax increases) and the raise of the national debt ceiling. On the other end were Republicans railing against tax hikes and for a short-term debt-ceiling raise while battling Tea Party members clamoring for a balanced budget.

In the end, though federal lawmakers warned otherwise, it was almost crazy to think an 11th-hour deal wouldn't happen. And, of course, it got done, with an agreement that will raise the nation's $14.3-trillion debt ceiling by $2.1 trillion while cutting spending $917 billion over 10 years, with an added cuts of $1.2 trillion to come from a select committee of Congress members later in the year.

The process no doubt dizzied most people. Even Gov. Chris Christie asked:
