Face Time: Dem. Hopeful Puts Mug on Car

Write-in candidate John Pezzino takes early—and different—advertising approach.

John Pezzino doesn't just want you to know his name. He wants you to know his face, too.

A Democratic write-in council candidate, Pezzino slapped a red, white and blue decal on the side of his car. It reads "Hopatcong Council Candidate John Pezzino" and features upward-turned mug. The advertisement doesn't, however, mention the word "Democratic."

Pezzino attended Wednesday's board of health meeting at the , but left before Patch could ask him about the peculiar advertising. Most local elections feature signs or banners donning candidate names, usually crop up on lawns or street corners just weeks before voters hit the polls.

Pezzino was written in on the Democratic ballot along with resident Mara Modes. The pair will square off against Republican incumbents Richard Bunce and Marie Galate for two open council seats in November. in the Republican primaries in June.

Well Michelle, I think we can be sure they are not going to get any "free" signs like the incumbents do, nor do I think they will be ALLOWED the same park privileges as BBCC even though you can be sure the BBCC is campaigning for the status quo (they wouldn't want to lose their inroads). So I guess it's (as you said) VOTE the small sign people.

I didn't get to the meeting until a few minutes before it started and you were gone by the time I had an opportunity to speak with you afterward. Pointing out that you weren't around wasn't an attack on you, it was simply stating why I didn't get a chance to do it. I also emailed you after the meeting asking for you to contact me so we could discuss it. And when I said "mug," there was no malice behind it. People often refer to faces as mugs. It was just a different way of saying face. The word mug wasn't a critique on your look. You and I have spoken previously. I hope you know I wouldn't do that. With a unibrow and bad hair, I'm in no position criticize anybody. That said, the omission of the word "Democrat" was noteworthy, especially considering the advertisement was crafted meticulously. Hopatcong is a historically GOP-leaning borough. Prospective council candidates could make arguments over whether including it would help their cause.

According to Wikipedia, Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) affects one percent of the population and has little to do with looking at themselves in the mirror. It has a lot to do with unrealistic fantasies of success, power and intelligence. Some NPD sufferers become cult leaders or mass murderers, the rest become economists and policy-makers. Despite having a highly elevated sense of self-worth, narcissists have fragile self-esteem and handle criticism unpredictably, so let’s keep this to ourselves because he and the Mayor belong together. But let's check out John Pezzino's Facebook site. http://www.facebook.com/joggercong He's really into "girlie" magazines. http://www.facebook.com/pages/IFBB-Bikini-Pro-Juliana-Daniell/133845530017308 http://www.facebook.com/FemFitnessModels http://www.facebook.com/HotChicksWithAbs http://www.facebook.com/pages/IFBB-Bikini-Inge-D-C-Moeller/252247018148393 So he wants to align himself with the Republican party in this borough? Yes that's where he belongs. Keep him! Send us a thank you letter.

I spent about 2 hours with John this morning. I am a life long Democrat; although I completely disagree with his position on Obama, I have concluded that John is an excellent candidate for council. He is a man of unusual honesty and sincerity and he has my vote for council! I would not vote for the other write in candidate for all the tea in China. Thanks for your time, John!
