DEP to Discuss Sussex County's Draft Sewer Service Area Map

Public meeting set for March 15 in Newton.

The Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public meeting to discuss Sussex County's draft sewer service area map on March 15 as part of a planning effort to update the Wastewater Management Plan for the county.

At issue will be a service area covering all or parts of 22 Sussex County municipalities: Andover Borough, Andover Township, Frankford, Franklin, Fredon, Green, Hamburg, Hampton, Hardyston, Hopatcong,  Lafayette, Montague, Newton, Ogdensburg, Sandyston, Sparta, Stanhope, Stillwater, Sussex, Vernon, Walpack and Wantage.

Sewer issues for the Sussex County Highlands Region conforming municipalities, consisting of Byram Township and those portions of Green, Hardyston, Hopatcong, Ogdensburg, Sparta and Vernon Township that are wholly within the designated Highlands Preservation Area, will not be subject to this public meeting.  Also not subject to this public meeting is Branchville, which currently has a valid wastewater management plan.

The map to be discussed on is a preliminary working draft, developed in coordination with and reviewed by DEP, Sussex County and the affected cities and towns. It reflects proposed changes in wastewater service area designations to eliminate conflicts with Category One waters, wetlands, threatened and endangered species habitats and other unique and rare ecological communities.

The draft is subject to change in response to information provided by the public. The preliminary working draft map can be viewed at: http://www.nj.gov/dep/watershedmgt/DOCS/sussexmap20110315.pdf
