Here are five things you need to know about Drug Disposal Day in Sussex County on Saturday.

  1. You Need to Know Why: Becky Carlson, the Center for Prevention and Counseling's assistant director, said many people don't know how to properly dispose of prescription drugs. "Toilet, sink—it goes into the water system somehow eventually," she said. "This way it makes it very simple. It's in the community and it's through the police department." Medicine Shoppe owner Tony Coppola said there's been an increase of prescription drug abuse over the years.
  2. You Need to Know When: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  3. You Need to Know Where: on Hopatchung Road.
  4. You Need to Know What to Bring: Expired or unwanted prescriptions or over-the-counter medications; drugs that didn’t work for you, a family member or pet; drugs that are no longer used or from deceased family members; Unknown tablets and capsules.
