Hopatcong Applying For Housing Grant

Federal grant will be used to help qualified low-income residents make repairs to their homes.

Written by Michael Daigle

The borough of Hopatcong will be applying for a $55,000 federal grant for housing rehabilitation in order to help certain homeowners make repairs to their homes.

Administrator Robert Elia said last week that the grant comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and will be used to help qualified low-income residents.

Last year the borough received $50,000 from the USDA Rural Development Housing Preservation Grant program and assisted five homeowners, Elia said.

Hopatcong was only one of two New Jersey towns to get the federal funds last year, he said.

The Borough Council held a public hearing on the application Wednesday. Elia said there is 15-day comment period in place during which residents can file comments on the application.
