Hopatcong, Stanhope Officials Meet as Thousands Continue Without Power

Hopatcong officials say they are working with Stanhope officials to figure out how to best help the thousands of residents who are still left without power four days after Tropical Storm Sandy tore through the northeast.

Borough councilman Michael Francis said both municipalities will meet Friday afternoon to discuss how to share resources, OEM personnel, and information for how to help the residents struggling from Sandy aftermath.

"We're doing everything we possibly can to get through this," he said.

He said one of the things officials are discussing is how to get more supplies for residents at the shelter at Hopatcong High School.

Francis said officials are in constant contact with JCP&L, as the power company continues to work around the borough.

Francis said the power company has primarily been working at the substations in Hopatcong, because that's where the large distribution areas are. He said there are six substations throughout the borough.

As of Friday afternoon, Francis said JCP&L workers are still working on removing the numerous trees and wires, and getting the poles replaced. Francis said the company is "making great progress" and will be able to supply power once they get everything cleared and the substations up and running.
