NJHerald.com: Lake Hopatcong Plan Eases Tensions

Changes satisfy Lake Hopatcong, Musconetcong River and lake supporters.

The Department of Environmental Protection's Lake Hopatcong water-level management plan has been approved, but not without changes that have placated both supporters of Lake Hopatcong and the Musconetcong River and lake, according to the New Jersey Herald.

The biggest change: if Lake Hopatcong's water level drops a foot from its 8-foot norm, the Hopatcong dam's minimum plassing flow of 12 cubic feet per second will be lowered.

Lake Hopatcong backers advocated dropping the outflow since higher water elevations mean better recreation. On the other side, some worried if the Musconetcong water bodies' ecology would be affected.
