Quick Bio: Council Candidate John Young

Young, a 61-year-old Republican, has lived in Hopatcong all his life and has spent years participating in borough organizations.

Incumbent John Young (R) and newcomer Estelle Klein (R) will run uncontested for two open council seats while Sylvia Petillo (R) will run alone for a mayoral re-election in Hopatcong on Nov. 8.

Previous elected or appointed positions: Current council member, former 26-year recreation commission, serving as chairman for seven year.

Any other current elected or appointed positions: Open space committee member; council's recreation commission liason.

Other community associations: Hopatcong Warriors youth football for 32 years; previous: officer and coach Hopatcong Jr. Chiefs wrestling for 22 years; officer of Hopatcong High School's booster club for five yeras, officer of Morris County Youth Football for 23 years. 

How long have you lived in town? 61 years

What do you see as the most pressing issues in a coming term, and what would you do about them? Stabilizing local taxes; continue to seek ways to be cost effective and more effecient while maintaining services. Finding new sources of revenue. Making Hopatcong more attractive to business. 

What's one fact about you that most voters probably don't know? Always regret not following father in local fire department. Father was a local volunteer fireman for 45 years.
