Sparta Appoints Permanent Town Manager

Franklin resident William Close will begin March 17 at $155K with a $5K raise after a three-month trial period.

Dover's town administrator, boasting 30 years of municipal experience, has been named Sparta's new township manager.

William Close, of Franklin, was unanimously approved Tuesday night as Sparta's new town manager, according to the Daily Record. He will begin March 17 and will earn $155,000. After a three-month trial, Close's salary will increase to $160,000.

Close, who served in Dover for five years and resigned with a salary of $148,569, replaces Sparta interim manager Steven Levinson.

Levinson took over after David Troast resigned in August amid accusations he made a comment referring to a firearm to a councilwoman at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
