Sussex GOP Honors Hopatcong Mayor

Sylvia Petillo receives award for service to the borough.

Hopatcong Mayor Sylvia Petillo was honored at Tuesday night's Sussex County Republican Club high tea at the Farmstead Golf & Country Club in Andover for her service to the borough.

Petillo, Hopatcong's first female mayor, took office in 2008 and is running for reelection uncontested in November. Petillo was the first Hopatcong woman resident honored by the club since Margaret Dam, a former borough council member.

"It's just always nice that someone recognizes the southern part of the county," Petillo said on Wednesday. Petillo received a framed tea cup from Republican club Chairman Ailish Hambel and Deborah Wirths of Wantage at the high tea.

Also in attendance were District 24 Republicans Sen. Steve Oroho, Assemblyman Gary Chiusano and Assemblywoman Allison McHose.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article said Margaret Dam was the first Hopatcong woman resident. Just a typo.
