Voting for Tuesday Set in Hopatcong and Sparta

Residents will still be able to vote despite loss of power in borough and township.

Despite the devastating aftermath of Tropical Storm Sandy while many residents still remain without power, voting on Tuesday will still go on, with several polling locations revised. Some of the locations remain the same, while others have been moved.

In Hopatcong, four candidates are seeking two seats on the Hopatcong Borough Council for three-year terms. Incumbents Richard Bunce and Marie Galate will challenge Democrats John Pezzino and Mara Modes.

Six candidates are running for three 3-year seats on Hopatcong's Board of Education. The candidates are incumbents Clifford Lundin and Dolores Krowl, the board’s president, Joan S. Reilly, and challengers Quashinna Williams, John H. Maine, and Judith Antonelli.

In Sparta, five candidates are running for two four-year terms on the Sparta Township Council. The candidates are current mayor Jerry Murphy challenging James Henderson, Donald R. Ploetner, II., Christine Quinn, and Jesse Wolosky.

Six candidates are running for three 3-year terms on the Sparta Board of Education. The candidates are president Keith Smith, vice president Dorothy La Beau, incumbent Ilse Wolfe, and challengers Kim Yeomans, Karen M. Scott, and John Surdoval.

Residents can vote early at the Sussex County Clerk's Office located at 1 Spring Street in Newton. The office can be reached at (973) 579-0950.

The times to vote early at the clerk's office are on Friday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
