Final School Budget Votes Set For Monday

Both Hopatcong and Sparta school boards will have a public hearing on the 2013-14 spending plans.

It’s an education filled week in Hopatcong and Sparta, as both school districts will meet Monday night to formally approve their 2013-14 school budgets.

In Hopatcong, the board will meet at 7 p.m. March 25 to approve its budget, which got a 2.2-percent increase in state aid for the upcoming spending plan.

Along with the budget, the board will continue its search for a new superintendent. The meeting is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.

In Sparta, the board of education will also meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Mohawk School for regular session.

A public hearing will be held on the budget prior to a final vote by the board, and includes a total tax levy of $56,193,972.

The district received an increase of 4.2-percent in state aid for the upcoming spending plan, with a total of $5,877,090.

The meeting is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
