Schools Cancel Evening Events, Reschedule HHS Hoops Games Due to Predicted Winter Storm
No announcements have been released yet regarding whether Hopatcong and Sparta schools will open Friday.
Evening events at Hopatcong Borough and Sparta Township Public Schools will be cancelled Thursday, according to the districts' websites. The reason: the snowstorm meteorologists say could drop up to eight inches of the white stuff through the area starting in late afternoon.
In advance of the storm, which is expected to bring near-blizzard conditions including blustery winds and extremely cold temperatures, school officials dismissed schools early and cancelled after-school extracurricular activities and afternoon pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes.
In addition, Hopatcong High School announced that Friday basketball games
will be moved to Saturday morning. The schedule is as follows:
- 9 a.m. Girls JV
- 10 a.m. Boys Freshman
- 10:30 a.m. Girls Varsity
- 11:30 p.m. Boys JV
- 1 p.m. Boys Varsity
