Red Ribbon Week Offers Life Lessons to Elementary Students

Red Ribbon Week reaches millions of young people each, teaching the importance of staying drug-free and making healthy life decisions.

Students at Durban Avenue Elementary School in Hopatcong spent last week learning valuable life lessons participated in their annual Red Ribbon Week celebratios.  The nationwide Red Ribbon Week program reaches millions of young
people each year and stresses the importance of staying drug-free and making healthy life decisions.

To show their support, Durban Avenue students dressed in themed clothing to display their commitment to being drug free. The themes included children wearing hats to “put a lid on drugs” and team jerseys to “team up against drugs.”

In addition to dressing for the occasion, students participated in activities
throughout the week that promoted overall safety in our schools and community. The kids enjoyed a visit from Officer Dave—Hopatcong Police Officer David Schultz, who puts a lot of energy into educating area families about the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse.

Superintendent of Schools Cynthia Randina said Red Ribbon Week made Durban Avenue students on the road to living safe and positive lives.
