Hopatcong School Board Honors Patriotic Essays
Voice of Democracy winner Trentino Pezzano praises U.S. Constitution.
In his winning essay, Hopatcong High School student Trentino Pezzano said the success of the United States is based on the strength of the U.S. Constitution.
Pezzano was the first place winner in the Voice of Democracy essay contest sponsored annually by the local Veteran of Foreign Wars post.
Pezzano read his essay to the Board of Education last month.

The strength of the nation is based on the Constitution, Pezzano said.
The principals of the nation are laid out in the Constitution, “which was well put together like a puzzle,” he said.

But the document also allows for changes that occur in society over time, he said. The amendments to the Constitution show that is allows and anticipated social change, he said.
Second place winner Michelle Archambault said her essay presents “the opposite of what his did.”
Board president Clifford Lundin said that it appeared the contest judges were more interested in the quality of the writing and thought than the content.
The board also acknowledged the efforts of teacher Sandra Derose for reinstituting and restoring the high school student newspaper, which appears on the district’s website.
