Sparta School Board Rejects Full-Day Kindergarten Proposal

The district plans to instead use $700K to fund capital projects.

The Sparta Board of Education voted against the recommendation of the district's superintendent and curriculum director to implement full-day kindergarten.

Board members Brenda Beebe, Richard Bladek, Frank Favichia, Jack Surdoval and Kim Yoemans voted against the proposal, while Kelly McEvoy, Todd Muth and Karen Scott were in favor, according to The Alternative Press.

The district will be one of just a few in Sussex County to not offer full-day kindergarten in the fall, the report said. Sparta schools plan to fund unspecified capital projects with $700,000 of the $1.033 million in banked cap funding that would have supported the full-day kindergarten, according to TAP.
