A Hopatcong man resisted arrest and assaulted cops after responding to a reported disturbance on Windsor Avenue early morning Sunday, according to Hopatcong police. Police charged Daniel Walthour, 45, with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, as well as resisting arrest and obstruction after Walthour also allegedly needed five officers to detain him once he was at police headquarters. Police said Officer Gerald Mancuso and Lt. Robert Unhoch responded to a home on Windsor Avenue at 1:14 a.m. on Sunday after a report of a disturbance. A juvenile threatened to run from home and struck a police officer, police said. Officer David Kraus responded to Coolidge Trail for a report of a mother saying her juvenile son was threatening to run away again and that he was on probation at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, police said. Kraus' intended to speak with the male about running away, police said. But when he arrived, the juvenile locked Kraus and his mother out of the house before cursing at the officer, police said. A Hopatcong man assaulted a police officer after driving drunk without his headlights on, police said. Det. Ryan Tracey was on a motor vehicle stop when he saw a Harry Persadsingh's vehicle driving toward him on River Styx Road without his lights at 11:40 p.m. Friday, police said. So Tracey ended the stop and followed Persadsingh, 53, police said. When Tracey stopped Persadsingh, he smelled raw marijuana from within the vehicle, police said. Persadsingh then failed field sobriety tests, police said. A search of Persadsingh's vehicle revealed a clear plastic sandwich bag filled with marijuana, police said. A Hopatcong man struck another man with a beer bottle at a Byram Quick Chek early Saturday, Byram police said. Byram officers responded to a report of an assault at the convenience store at 2:27 a.m. Saturday, police said. Then officers saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspects' leaving the scene and stopped the car on Acorn Street, police said. The driver, Jim K. Gregor Jr., 21, of Hopatcong, failed field sobriety tests, police said. His passenger, Kyle K. Imroth, 22, of Hopatcong, had an open container of alcohol, police said. A fight the night before the Fourth of July sent two Hopatcong men to jail and a juvenile to a detention center, police said. Kyle Shalkowski, 23, and Francisco Torres, 19, were each charged aggravated assault, possession of weapons with an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. The juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon with an unlawful purpose underage drinking and disorderly conduct, police said.
