Fundraiser held for Jacci Fry, a Sussex County woman wounded in Colorado theater shooting.
Family, friends and community members came together Monday night for a fundraiser at Salt Gastropub in Byram to benefit Jacci Fry, a Lenape Regional High School grad wounded in the Colorado theater shooting earlier this month. Salt's owner, Brad Boyle, is donating all the profits from Monday and Tuesday evenings from the restaurant to help with Fry's medical expenses. Local musician, Jon Wozniak, performed as part of Monday's festivities. The evening included a silent auction of items donated by individuals and businesses from around the community. Items up for auction included artwork, golf at Crystal Springs and Black Oak golf courses, a personal performance by singer/songwriter, Briz and N.Y. Yankee box seats. Monday was sold out, but …

Owner of Byram's Salt restaurant to host fundraiser to assist with Jacci Fry's medical expenses.
When Bradley Boyle, the owner of the Salt Gastropub in Byram, heard a local woman he knew was among those injured in the Colorado shooting at the premiere of the new Batman movie last week, he had to do something to help. He knows Jacci Fry's family, and, besides, he says it's always been important for both he and his wife to be involved in the community. "I've known them for quite some time," Boyle said. "Our kids went to school together and Jacci was a customer of ours at the restaurant." So Boyle, along with his wife, decided to host a fundraiser at their restaurant. The fundraiser will be held this Monday and Tuesday night from 5 to 10 p.m. "If we have the opportunity to do something like this, it's kind of our responsibility to do it…

Colorado shootings more evidence for the need to ban assault weapons nationwide.
In many states, there is no limit on the number of guns, nor on the amount of ammunition, one can buy. In New Jersey, however, you cannot purchase more than one gun each month and assault weapons are banned. The state ranked second behind California on the national scorecard of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. According to the campaign, the six states with the toughest gun laws also had the lowest gun death rates in the nation last year. Now that makes sense, doesn’t it? Including Friday’s mass shooting in a Colorado movie theater that claimed the lives of a dozen people and wounded 70, including a 23-year-old Sussex County woman, 20 people have been killed and 95 wounded in 22 days. A timeline by the Los Angeles Times of the …

North Jersey residents remained stunned less than 24 hours after the deadly Colorado theater shooting that left 12 dead and 70 injured—included a Sussex County woman—during the premiere of the latest Batman movie. But that didn't stop or scare them from heading to local theaters Friday to see the acclaimed "The Dark Knight Rises." "I had heard what happened [in Colorado] but it didn't make me not want to go see the movie today," said Tom Moore, 13, who watched the film at the Bellevue Cinema in Montclair. The alleged shooter, James Eagan Holmes, entered the theater in Aurora, Colo., dressed in all black and with heavy body armor, authorities said. He is believed to have used three weapons and had four with him in total, authorities said. …
23-year-old Andover resident was struck in the leg with shrapnel, released from surgery and is doing OK, according to her sister.
A 23-year-old Sussex County woman was among the 70 injured when a gunman opened fire and killed 12 early Friday morning at a movie theater screening of the new Batman movie in Aurora, Colo. Jacci Fry, of Andover, was hit in the leg with shrapnel and rushed to the hospital, according to her sister, Jamie. Jamie Fry said her sister was released from surgery Friday afternoon. "She's OK," Jamie Fry said. "She's definitely OK." Jamie Fry said their parents left for Colorado Friday afternoon. Jacci Fry was also trampled as audience members fled from the gunfire during the premiere of "Dark Knight Rises," according to Fry's friend, Justin Wentzel. "She's been cracking jokes, keeping the hospital staff laughing," Jamie Fry said of her sister. A …
