Police: Man Allegedly Rolled Pot Cigar in View of Officer

21-year-old arrested for drug paraphernalia, possession at Sparta Junction intersection.

Sparta police arrested a 21-year-old Lake Hopatcong man Wednesday after an officer allegedly witnessed him roll marijuana into a cigar. Officer Craig J. Grauerholz was in a police car stopped next to a silver Honda Civic at the Sparta Junction at 3:18 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 waiting to turn right onto Rt. 15 when he witnessed the passenger roll marijuana into a cigar, according to John P. Beebe of the Sparta Police Department. Police stopped the car and asked the passenger about the cigar. The man denied any knowledge of the cigar or possession of any illegal substance, Beebe said. Drug-Dealing Student Had Pot, Knife at School, Cops Say

Sparta High School senior allegedly had $4,450, drugs and a 13-inch knife on school property.

An 18-year-old Sparta High School student was arrested Thursday for allegedly selling drugs and having a knife on school property, police said. School officials searched a car driven by senior Eric Roberts when he arrived at the school at about 11 a.m. Thursday. He was found to have a 13-inch butterfly knife, $4,450 in cash and marijuana divided in separate Ziploc bags, allegedly for distribution, according to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe. Roberts was charged with distribution of narcotics on school property, possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon on school property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance later that day and is scheduled to appear in municipal court on Thursday, Jan. 31.
