Pictures With Santa at Hopatcong Pound

Hopatcong Pound Project invites residents to bring their pets for a photo op with Santa on Sunday.

The Hopatcong Animal Pound is breaking in its new building by inviting residents to bring their pets and children for pictures with Santa on Sunday. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m., and will have animal control officer Dale Sloat dressing up as Santa Claus. Residents can pay a $10 donation for a 5 x 7 picture with Santa. All proceeds will go to the Hopatcong Pound Project, an organization created by two residents last year to raise money for the animals at the pound and their supplies. This is the first the community will see the new buidling since it went up last month. The building, which costed over $30,000, was funded completely through donations from residents. Ed Van Orden, one of the Hopatcong Pound Project co-founders, …

John, it appears that the article was not written correctly as it was open to everyone not just residents. You didn't even have to bring a pet. Whoever wanted a picture with Santa simply paid the $10 donation and did so. Our cats' photo was awesome and they even tolerated another photo as a family. While this event ended I believe they are having it again on the 9th. You can visit their website …   more ›

Hopatcong Pound Gets Groomed With Renovations

Residents part of the Hopatcong Pound Project plan to bring more space and resources.

One of the last things Ed Vanorden's wife said to him before she passed away was to take care of their dogs. The Hopatcong resident said those words resonated with him, and thought to himself, "I can do more than that." And that's just what he did. About a year later in June 2011, Vanorden met with resident Wendy Ciardi, and the two saw a need to help local animals, and created the Hopatcong Pound Project, where they raise money for animals and their supplies. One of the first things they thought of was to revamp the Hopatcong Pound and add in more space for the stray animals, which Animal Control Officer Dale Sloat said they have been trying to do for years. Through fundraisers and donations throughout the community, the duo raised over $…

PHOTOS: Pound Project Reaches Critical Point

Hopatcong's community effort results in foundation of new building.

The Hopatcong Pound Project hasn't slowed down. Workers spent time recently creating a foundation for the new building, which will be 47-by-24 feet. The new structure will stand beside the old building, but will provide more care space for pets and room for employees and medical assistance. "I assure that this money is well spent to further what the project and its supporters are working toward as something we will all be proud of," said Wendy Ciari, Hopatcong Pound Project president, in a joint email with Vice President Ed Van Orden. "We still ask for continuing support as we promise you something great for the animals as well as the community involvement." Click here for more information and donation details.

The HPP really is a good cause. If you can donate to one more thing this year please donate to this. They current pound is so small and awful. They animals really need something better while they are waiting for their new forever homes. And no I am not associated with the HPP in anyway, I just have a love for the animals.
